Read this document, and (for
manufacturing jobs) these three print guidelines before using the templates:
If you need help or can't find what you need, just phone us on the number below. |
When sending us your job, just enclose your print files from these templates. It is absolutely essential that you include all the fonts and images that you have used, even if you have embedded them in the artwork. If you are sending the files to us, rather than emailing them, always include a same-size colour printout showing file name, page numbers, bleed and catalogue number where appropriate, and crop and fold marks.
If your Web browser isn't configured to automatically launch an archive application such as StuffIt or WinZip to expand these compressed files, you'll need to run the application manually after downloading.
The copyright in these templates is owned by Repeat Performance Ltd. Remember that different manufacturers often have different print specifications, so please do not adjust any of the templates. You are only allowed to use them for jobs that are duplicated by us: the templates contain hidden identifiers which show that they came from us, and we prosecute people who use them elsewhere.
Although we check all our files for viruses before we upload them to our website, we recommend that you run a virus check on all downloaded files before using them.

If you know what you're doing, you can submit your artwork as Press PDFs instead of native files: this way you retain more control and can save time and money, though only if the job is received and identified correctly at our end. PDFs are final print files, so remember that it's your responsibility to make sure the files are completely correct; we can still supply a digital proof if you wish before we run to print. Although there are a number of ways to produce Press PDFs, we recommend that you use Acrobat Distiller with our job options settings, and supply both composite and separated files. The files must have bleed (if bleed is appropriate to your artwork), crop and fold marks, page numbers and the catalogue number. All fonts and images must be embedded. You can email the PDFs to us either at macgraphics@rpmuk.com or pcgraphics@rpmuk.com, whichever is appropriate for your platform, quoting the job number that we have issued you and the catalogue number. The PC templates are in CorelDraw 7, QuarkXPress 4.1, Adobe PageMaker 6.0, InDesign 1.5 and Illustrator 8, and Macromedia FreeHand 8 formats, archived using WinZip (*.zip filenames): save the zip file to disk, and if it does not decompress automatically after downloading, double-click it or open it yourself in WinZip. When sending us your job please include all the fonts you have used even if you have embedded them; you must use only TrueType fonts for PC artwork. If you have a later version of the programs please save your artwork in your version: we support CorelDraw up to vX3, QuarkXPress up to v6.5, PageMaker up to v7, InDesign up to CS2, Illustrator up to CS2, and Freehand up to vMX. We also supply some templates in Microsoft Publisher 98, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint formats: they are only for our in-house desktop printing and cannot generally be used for manufacturing jobs because they do not produce CMYK colour separations and the layout is dependent on which printer driver you have installed. If you really have to submit in Publisher, Word or PowerPoint, please phone us first and speak to Robin Springall.
The Macintosh templates are in QuarkXPress 3.3, Adobe PageMaker 6.0, InDesign 1.5 and llustrator 8, and Macromedia FreeHand 8 formats, archived using Stuffit (*.sit filenames): save the file to disk, and if it does not decompress automatically after downloading, double-click it or open it yourself in Stuffit Expander. When sending us your job please include all the fonts (both screen fonts and printer fonts); you may use TrueType or Postscript Type 1 fonts. If you have a later version of the programs please save your artwork in your version: we support QuarkXPress up to v6.5, PageMaker up to v7, InDesign up to CS2, Illustrator up to CS2, and Freehand up to vMX.
The standard CD booklet templates are set up as a printers
pair for ease of use: if you are really up to it and know exactly what
you are doing, you may prefer instead to use the booklet setup feature
of your page layout program when designing multiple-page booklets, as this
will help you see the readers spreads more easily. Templates in Adobe Photoshop,
Paintshop Pro, and other bitmap programs are not provided simply because
the file sizes are just too large for normal downloading via the Web. If
you don't have access to a vector-based program, we can usually accept
bitmaps like Photoshop, tiffs and jpegs subject to a small graphics charge,
but you must be aware that the resolution of text will be often reduced;
remember that Photoshop files should be submitted unflattened: see the
General
Guidelines page for more details.
